Northlake’s Landscape Management at Its Best

Covering over 32 square miles NW of Grapevine Lake in Denton County, Northlake is something of a newcomer to the Metroplex family of cities. Northlake was incorporated in December of 1960 but interestingly, growth was not the reason. The area was ranching country, and its residents wanted it to stay that way. Alarmed over rumors that a couple of large neighbors had their eyes on Northlake for the purpose of absorbing their rural area into their own cities, residents quickly incorporated their collective ranchlands into an autonomous “city”. As of the 1970 census, the city was home to only 20 residents. Today, Northlake’s population stands at around 3,630 souls and more arriving regularly. The town is attracting new restaurants, retail, and residents to the tune of 10,000 new homes planned for the next decade. But even with new growth, the city of Northlake is determined to preserve its rural legacy by setting aside half of its rural land as open space, ranches, and 1+ acre lots. Rural yet so convenient to Alliance and DFW airports and both downtown Dallas and Fort Worth, family-oriented Northlake is attracting businesses and amenities as well as multi-generational families, while managing to retain that special, small-town feel.
